Importing Sugarcane Bagasse Tableware
Sugarcane bagasse tableware is moulded from the fibre left after juice is crushed from cane. Plates, bowls, and clamshell boxes from this fibre are bought by caterers, airlines, and retailers that want a plastic-free disposable. Importing it well is mostly about moisture, shape, and honest labelling.
Bagasse is hygroscopic. A plate that left the factory dry can feel soft if the cartons sat in humid air or if the wrap was torn. Ask how each stack is bagged inside the carton, and reject a quote that cannot describe the inner pack. For a first order, stay with a few shapes you can inspect: a round plate, a bowl, and one clamshell. Add compartment trays only after those three pass your own kitchen test with hot, oily food.
Food-contact claims should match the documents you can show your own customer. Ask Alpha Exports which test reports are available for the exact mould you are buying, and which claims you may print on your pack. Do not put "compostable in home compost" on a carton unless you have a report for that product and your market accepts that wording.
