Your First CIF Order to the UAE, Singapore, or the United States
CIF means Alpha Exports delivers the goods onto the vessel at Nhava Sheva and pays the ocean freight and insurance to the named port. It does not mean the goods are cleared into your country, and it does not include duty, local delivery, or your broker's fee. Prepare this before you ask for a CIF number:
- Company name and the port you want named on the bill of lading
- Product, specification, and quantity in cartons
- Whether the consignee is you or your distributor
- Any mark you need printed on the carton
UAE. Jebel Ali is the usual discharge port. Your clearing agent will want the commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, and certificate of origin. Food-contact disposables and tissue are ordinary commercial cargo, but the description on the invoice must match the cartons. "Paper products" is too vague if the container holds both toilet rolls and bagasse plates. Split the lines.
Singapore. The port call is short and the documents are checked closely against the packing list. Carton counts, net weight, and gross weight should be the figures Alpha Exports used on the invoice. If you are the importer of record, your agent needs those numbers before the vessel arrives, not after.
United States. Name the discharge port you actually use, such as New York, Savannah, or Los Angeles. Your customs broker classifies the goods. Tissue rolls and moulded fibre tableware do not share one code, so a mixed container needs a line for each. Send your broker the spec sheet and a photo of the sample before the cargo sails, not when the ship is already alongside.
On every route, a sample sent by courier is separate from the CIF shipment. The buyer pays that courier. Use the sample to lock ply, size, or plate diameter. The production order then repeats that sample, not a similar item from the catalogue.
